Family relationships and parenting

Individual and joint sessions on boundaries, on the things nobody says out loud, and on parenting through a stage nobody prepared you for.

Is this you

  • Your parents or in-laws are in decisions that should be yours.
  • There is a subject the whole family avoids and everyone knows it.
  • Your child has reached a stage nobody prepared you for.
  • You are parenting your children and your parents in the same year.
  • Everyone is polite and nothing is honest.
We see each other every week and we haven't said anything real in years.

The problem, in the words people use for it.

What we work on

  • Boundaries with parents and in-laws: where they are, and how to hold them without a rupture.
  • The conversation the family has been avoiding, prepared for properly and then had.
  • Parenting decisions you are making alone, thought through with someone neutral.
  • Ageing parents, adult children, and who is carrying what.
  • What this family is actually for, agreed rather than assumed.

What the engagement is

  • A set arc of sessions, some individual and some joint, depending on who needs to be in the room.
  • A fuller assessment before the first session.
  • Work between sessions, and direct feedback in them.
  • Private-pay, and finite rather than open-ended.

Where a family carries layered trauma we refer it out rather than take the engagement. See coaching or therapy, which one do you need.

Start the conversation somewhere.

You do not need the rest of the family on board to send this. One person is enough to begin.
