Questions people actually ask

If you just rolled your eyes at the word coaching, so did we. The skepticism is the right instinct. Most of what carries this label is encouragement you could get for free.

Is this just life coaching?

Fair question, and a lot of us had the same reaction. There are no affirmations here and no generic motivation.

What there is: an assessment across five areas of your life that your coach reads before the first session, a set arc rather than a topic checklist, work between sessions, direct feedback, and a finish rather than a standing appointment. Why we work across everything at once.

I don't have time for this.

It does take time, and the work between sessions is not optional. The arc is visible and finite, so you know what you are agreeing to.

But if you cannot give it the hours right now, wait until you can. Doing this badly is worse than not doing it at all.

I've read the books and done therapy. What's different here?

You are not under-informed. The insight has come to you one domain at a time, from people who each saw one slice of the situation, and nobody has ever put your work, your relationships and your identity in the same room. That is the gap, and it is the thing this is built to close.

Can I trust a stranger with things I can't say to anyone?

The confidentiality here is structural rather than a promise: private-pay, no insurance, no diagnosis, no documentation trail. There is no file with your name on it, which is what makes saying the whole thing possible.

How much does it cost?

The fee is set after the first conversation, once we both know what the work is. There is no tier menu and no package to pick from, because the scope is not the same for everyone.

Nothing is charged before that conversation, and you will know the number before you commit to anything. How an engagement is scoped.

Are sessions online or in person?

Both. In person around Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, and online anywhere in the country. Roughly half of engagements run entirely remotely, and nothing about the arc changes when they do.

How long does an engagement take end to end?

It depends on the scope, which is set with you after the first conversation. You will know the number of sessions and the end date before you agree to anything, and it is a defined arc rather than something open-ended. The full arc is here.

Is this a substitute for therapy?

No, and where it is the wrong instrument we say so. Limited trauma that needs reframing is within scope. Layered trauma is not, and in that case we refer it out rather than take the engagement anyway.

Therapy and coaching solve different problems and neither is a lesser version of the other. Here is how to tell which one your situation calls for.

Still not sure?

Write the question down and send it. You will get a straight answer from a person, and it does not commit you to anything.
